Where to Go in St. Lawrence County

Norfolk Canoe/Kayak Launch (Raquette River)

Just one mile north of Hidden Meadow Inn, just north of Rt. 38 (Main Street) on River Road in Norfolk, is a canoe/kayak launch into the Raquette River.  When you leave our inn, turn right out of the driveway, go 1 mile.  At the T at Rt. 38 (Main Street) turn left, and immediately turn right on to River Road. Watch for signs on the right for the canoe carry.

Cranberry Lake

The lake covers 11 square miles and has 155 miles of shoreline.

Grasse River

North branch:  Canton to Madrid from boat launch on Rte 68 just outside the village of Canton to the dam in Madrid.  Full day trip of about 12 miles.

South branch:  16 miles; 5 portages; access Tooley Pond Road.

Massena Rod & Gun Club

Access to the Grasse River.  Located off St Rte 37 on Patterson Road, Town of Louisville

Oswegatchie River, Cooper’s Falls

Short 2-mile trip from Kendrew Corners in the town of DeKalb.  River access along Rte 812 near Cty Rte 17. One portage around High Falls.

40-mile round trip from Inlet to Lows Lake Carry and back takes 2-3 days.

Raquette River, Colton – Hannawa Falls (Stone Valley Recreation Area)

Access from Colton (river flows south to north); dam opened certain times for running of kayaks.

Raquette River, Potsdam

Access in Ives Park behind the Gazebo.  The dam in Potsdam backs up the river nearly two miles and is a great place for a quick paddle or fishing.
