Browns Bridge – Postwood Park

Church Street, off Route 56, Hannawa Falls, south of Potsdam.  Easy, short trails under cathedral-like majestic pines.  Sections of the trail can be slick in spring.  Sandy beach with the best swimming in the area.  Easy 5.7 mile trail system, used for cross-country skiing, intersected by backroads, canoe access.

Indian Creek Nature Center

Drive northwest on Route 68 from Canton about 4.9 miles; turn left on to Route 14 toward Rennselaer Falls. Go about 3.9 miles to a parking area on the left. Watch for signs.   Easy 4.5 mile network of trails between Canton and Ogdensburg.  Upper and Lower Lakes State Wildlife Management Area.  Observation tower and birdblind overlook the refuge.  Wheelchair accessible boardwalk trail, picnic pavilion, learning center, restrooms.  Excellent bird watching site.

Red Sandstone Trail

Hannawa Falls, south of Potsdam.  Access from Mill Street near Hannawa Falls Fire Department, just off State Highway 56.  7-mile round trip hike follows the west bank of the Raquette River where red “Potsdam Sandstone” was quarried in the early 1900′s.  Interpretive markers display a map.  Follow Blue Diamond trail markers.  Trail extends north from Hannawa Falls to the northern tip of Sugar Island.  Return to Mill St. or walk out the dirt roads to the Back Hannawa Road.  Moderately challenging.  Canoe access at north entrance to trail off Cty Rt 59 across from Sweeney Road.
